PRESS RELEASE - SGRainbow marks IDAHOT 2015 with #thegayagenda
PRESS RELEASE
17 May 2015
In conjunction with the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) 2015, SGRainbow organised a photo campaign titled #thegayagenda. The campaign is a photo project that reveals what the gay agenda really is about.
In advocating against the discrimination, harassment and bullying faced by LGBTQ individuals in society, the LGBTQ community has been accused of trying to push a gay agenda.
For instance, in 2014, the Singapore government was accused of "more than tolerating the gay agenda" in permitting the annual Pink Dot gathering. More recently, a forum letter to The Straits Times asserts that there is a “same-sex marriage agenda” that sought to “affirm alternative sexual identity at all costs”.
For this project, we sought to find out what the gay agenda really is by asking LGBTQ youth and allies what their gay agendas are.
It is our hope that these photos help to highlight the real hopes, aspirations and motivations of LGBTQ youth and allies. In doing so, we hope that we can clarify the misconceptions and mischaracterisations of the LGBTQ community that continue to perpetuate homophobia and transphobia in our society.
Check out their gay agendas and share what your gay agenda is with us by sending a photo of you with your gay agenda to thegayagenda@sgrainbow.org.
Photos will be released gradually over the next month on our Facebook and Instagram. Follow us at www.facebook.com/SGRainbow on Facebook and @sg_rainbow on instagram.
